People's Campaign for Garbage-Free New Kerala

The All-Party Meeting expressed its full support to the Government's decision to organize a massive 'Malinyamuktham Nava Keralam' mass campaign starting on Gandhi Jayanti Day 2 October 2024 and ending on International Zero Waste Day 30 March 2025. The Chief Minister said that the campaign will be started by inaugurating the models created at the state, district and regional levels in waste management activities. The goal is to declare Kerala completely clean on March 30, 2025. Before this, neighbourhoods, villages, cities, government and public sector offices, schools, colleges and tourist destinations should become green. Activities such as reduction of waste, proper sorting, disposal of organic waste and liquid waste at source, transfer of inorganic waste through haritha karma sena etc. will be done with public participation. Necessary plants should be established for the treatment of septage waste. Water sources and drains should be cleaned. Land fills should be initiated in a scientific manner. Necessary action will be taken to address the gaps, if any, in waste collection, haritha karma sena activities, storage of collected materials, waste disposal, sanitary waste management, non-recyclable waste management, legacy waste removal, removal of garbage vulnerable points, entrepreneurship development, bio-waste management, enforcement and coordination with various departments. Public vigilance squads, enforcement measures with the help of the police department and inspections by various agencies related to hygiene and health will be streamlined. As part of the campaign, artificial intelligence-based cameras will be installed at required locations. Strict checking at borders and check posts will be made to ensure that banned plastic products are not carry across into the state. It will be ensured that shops and business establishments are free of banned plastic products. Strict action will be taken against establishments manufacturing banned plastic products, wholesalers and Stuckists of banned plastic products in the state. Necessary awareness will be organized to minimize the consumption of plastic materials. All public programs including those of religious - community - political - youth - student - women's - cultural organizations should be conducted in full compliance with the Green Protocol. The Chief Minister requested everyone's cooperation for this.
