The second phase of quarry recharging, which is being implemented by the Haritha Keralam Mission, is extending in four more grama panchayats in Kollam district. The feasibility study for this has been completed under the leadership of Haritha Kerala Mission State Technical Team. The study was completed in Ilavaramkuzhi in Erur Gram Panchayat, Kotathala Kozhuvan in Neduvathur Gram Panchayat, Kaila in Veliyam Gram Panchayat and Vendar in Kulakada Grama Panchayat. A survey by the Hydrology Department will be started soon to find out the depth and quantity of water available in the rock quarries.
The project is being carried out across the state in continuation of the success of Quarry Recharging implemented in Karipra Gram Panchayat of Kottarakkara Constituency under the leadership of Haritha Kerala Mission. The aim of this is to pump the water from the unused rock quarry using a solar pump and flow it through small streams to the agricultural lands and extend it to paddy cultivation and also to solve the drinking water shortage.
